Recipe: “Mexican” Affogato

An affogato is a weird and wonderful cross between a drink and a dessert. It literally means “drowned” in Italian and what it consists of is a large cup or small bowl of ice cream or gelato that is then covered in an espresso. It’s a great combination of hot and cold, sweetness and bitterness. This is my version that throws a bit of Mexican Tequila in and is the perfect dessert (for adults of course).

Ingredients

  • 0.5oz (15ml) Coffee liqueur
  • 0.5oz (15ml) Tequila
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Double espresso

Equipment

  • Espresso machine
  • Shot measure
  • 6/8oz cup
  • Spoon

Method

This is a very simple recipe to follow. Start by adding ice cream to your serving cup so that it is approximately half full

Next, add the alcohol!!!

Draw a double espresso straight into the serving cup over the top of the ice cream

Mix is up gently then eat quickly. This dessert tastes best in the first couple of minutes before it turns into soup

Enjoy it whilst you can
