Recipe: Banana Mocha

This is one of my favourites. Bananas and chocolate work so well together and adding them to coffee just ties them together even more. By the end of this you should have a steam cup of loveliness which will warm up any cold winter day. You can even add some toffee or caramel syrup if you want to turn it into a banoffee mocha. This is a pretty simple drink to make and is nice to make for a group of people to share and enjoy together

  • 2oz double espresso
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder or drinking chocolate
  • 1 large or 2 small bananas – puréed
  • Milk
  • Hot water

  • Espresso machine with steam wand
  • Milk frothing pitcher
  • Large pre-warmed mug
  • Spoon for mixing

Start by chopping and puréeing your bananas so that they are as liquid as they will possibly become. You will need a minimum of 1 tbsp but you may want to add more to taste.

Steam your milk so it has a heavy amount of froth, almost a cappuccino consistency.

Draw a double shot of espresso straight into the mug you are going to use to drink from. Add the cocoa powder and banana then mix thoroughly to dissolve everything as much as possible. At this point you may want to add a tiny amount of hot water to make this a bit easier.

Add your steamed milk then finish with more chocolate on top.
